In a country where the National Grid and imported oil are a thing of the past and government has long since descended into control by the personal fiefdoms of those with the resources to control private armies, mass production and complex technology is gone and the unit of production is once again the slave.
If you cannot buy the protection of the local warlord and don’t have the weapons and resources to defend what you call your home and family, then soon you will be a slave.
In what once was the city of Leeds in Yorkshire, England, rival warlords vie for control. Where there are soldiers, there are those that provide for and service them.
Notorious amongst these camp followers is ‘Kristina Kaos’, said to have the biggest stable of pleasure slaves in the north of England.
It says something then of the vicious hardships suffered by those captured by the slaver Lady Sea, that they will do anything to persuade Kristina Kaos to buy them away from their hateful Mistress and at one point, there in the market that day, the guards nearly lost control.
When we were discussing options with Lady Sea for showcasing her products in our photography the idea of a slave auction emerged. From there it seemed to take on a life of its own and at 10am on Sunday, 6 April, bleary eyed after a party that had finished at 5:30 AM, we arrived at Temple Works in Leeds to meet Lady Sea and the cast that she had assembled.
As always with location work, things didn’t run smoothly. On our arrival we discovered that the area we had planned to use had already been used by someone to store stacks of speakers and sound system gear, so it was a hurried search to identify a new location within the extensive but very rundown temple works.
Our new location was a cellar that came complete with an inch of dust, broken glass, builders rubble, and God knows what else on the floor. So while Kneelix got to work trying to clear a space for us where we could have our naked models work on the floor without being scarred for life, all the while trying to keep the level of dust down so that we didn’t end up shooting through a foggy haze, I began working out how I would light it and moving in the gear.
Lady Sea doesn’t do things by halves and when she invited a group of friends to come along on a Sunday morning strip naked, and roll on the floor in a dirty cold cellar she didn’t plan to leave them without at least some creature comforts.
Before we were ready to shoot the whole cast and crew were treated to fried eggs and bacon sandwiches and for the personal touch, you can’t beat being told the names of the chickens that laid the eggs you’re eating.
As with any production the first task once the “on screen talent” arrive is make up. In this case make up consisted of sending our slaves down into the cellar with a bottle of water to mix with the dust to make a lovely gooey mud to swear on themselves. Thankfully these people weren’t your average diva types. It was a joy to see the enthusiasm with which they undertook that task 🙂
Once into the shooting all thoughts of the cold and dirt were gone as the cast got into their parts and had fun :))
Was it worth all the effort?
Well here are some of the pictures. Judge for yourselves 😉
